Garage Sale Time!
So, after reading about our journey, and hearing about the costs involved, you may be wondering what the next step is for us. We are looking small at the moment, because being in this waiting place we currently find ourselves in, means that we can't really take too many steps in any direction. Our costs so far for fertility treatments has been adding up. Each IUI is $500, not including medications. We have family that has been so generous in helping, and we are so thankful! But the majority of these costs have come from our savings. Jon works full-time at Camp Imadene, as Director of Wildside, an adventure camp that he started and now runs. Everyone knows that you don't go into camping ministry for the money. I work part-time, but can't work much beyond that at the moment, because we don't have family to babysit for us, and we cannot afford childcare. Once our daughter is in school, it will be a different story, but for now, we have committed to me being home with her as much as possible, which means I work a lot of evenings when Jon can be home. Our funds are not much, and these costs have been hard on us (but worth it if they work!!).
So we have decided to have a big garage sale on May 6th! My in-laws were kind enough to say yes when I begged them to let us have it at their house. They live in Victoria, which is a bigger city with more traffic, which will mean more people at the garage sale, hopefully! The money we raise at the garage sale will go one of two places:
1) if the IUI was successful, then it will go towards the debt we have incurred over the past few months doing these treatments.
2) if the IUI was unsuccessful, then it will go towards the start of our adoption fund.
If an adoption fund is started, then you will be hearing from me A LOT with different fundraising ideas, and updates on the process along the way!
If you live on Vancouver Island and have things that are taking up space in your home and you need to de-clutter this spring, we will gladly pick up any donations! The more things to sell, the better! Also, if you are in Victoria on May 6th, come stop by! If we have a lot of things left over at the end of the day, we will be having another garage sale in the Cowichan Valley, so stay tuned!
